We had a visit from a puppet show on Monday 16th of December. The Junior Infants to Second Class had their own junior show. There was lots of festive cheer and we just loved when some of our audience members got to take part. There was even a little snow shower at the end!
The Junior Infants to Second Class children performed their nativity show on Thursday 12th December. The First Class children had the task of narrating the performance with the Second Class. They also had to sing and dance along to all the catchy tunes and what a wonderful job they did. There was lots of practice put in by the children; reading with expression, using a clear voice and even looking at the audience! We have lots of future performers on our hands. It was a fantastic day filled with lots of festive cheer!
First class designed and made their own Christmas candle holders using clay. They moulded the clay into the shape they wanted. We also used some utensils such as mini forks to create some patterns. We had to wait a few days for the clay to dry before the painting and decorating could begin!
After we painted the candle holders, making sure a few coats were used, we put in a little tea-light, wrapped it up with shiny paper and ribbon and had our little present ready to give to someone special for Christmas!
For the month of December First Class have been learning about the conventions of procedural writing. We read lots of different examples such as; following the steps of a recipe, reading instructions to play games and following a science experiment. We decided to write a procedure explaining how to build a snowman. Every child also made a little snowman using a toilet paper holder and an old sock to go with their writing piece. We had lots of fun creating our own little snowmen characters!
