In our class we are always mindful of showing kindness to one another. We share kind thoughts and try to do kind things both in the classroom and on the yard. We set up an advent kindness calendar in our classroom for the month of December. We also displayed a kindness quilt in the school front hall. We wanted to share some really simple ideas to continue to promote the kind atmosphere in our school such as; asking someone to join in a game, taking turns, saying 'please' and 'thank you', asking someone if they are feeling ok.

We have been learning all about report writing over the last few weeks. We learned that a report gives us information about something. There is always a title. Reports are divided into paragraphs with headings. Reports usually describe something. Reports contain lots of facts. Facts are always true and correct. Reports can be find in newspapers, magasines, school books etc.
We read lots of different types of reports. As it was coming up to Halloween we decided to do a report on bats. We had to research facts on bats. We then had to make a plan and after that write up our reports. We also made bats in Art to make our reports stand out. We learned some really interesting facts about bats. Come and have a read when you have time! First Class have been learning about colours and how we mix colours. We made colour wheels to learn more. Colour wheels show us how colours are related. They remind artists how to mix and think about colours. The primary colours are: red , blue, yellow. Primary colours cannot be made from other colours. Artists create all the other colours of the rainbow by mixing together the primary colours.
The secondary colours are: green, orange, violet (purple). Secondary colors are made by mixing two primary colors. Each secondary colour is made from the two primary colours closest to it on the colour wheel. We had great fun designing our own colour wheels! We have been learning about the seasons. We are in the season of autumn. We know there are three months in the season of autumn: August, September, October. There are lots of changes that happen during the season of autumn. In Art we did some autumnal leaf rubbings and made a tree display. Can you see the the different types of leaves and the changing colours? Did you notice some leaves are on the tree and some have fallen off. This is what happens in the season of autumn.First Class created self-portraits of themselves. We studied how to create the right face and head shape and what positions to draw all the facial features. We firstly used just a pencil to draw the shape and features. Our creative side was let loose then and we added in lots of extra features and little things that make us who we are!
We love how unique each one is. We looked and responded to everyone's portrait. They are hanging proudly in our hallway. You will meet us in our classroom as soon as you walk in the front door of the school. We are all ready to learn and cant wait to start First Class together.
